 Sighting In
« Thread Started on Mar 16, 2008, 4:46am »

Tom was all ghillied up and ready for a hunt. However, today he would not be hunting, aside from the fact he couldn't legally own a rifle, he knew little about the land here. Instead he carried his binoculars and a map, making notes as he skulked around.

For a moment he allowed his mind to wander, 'The Huntsman, yeah. That could work. Maybe it's be too much like The Huntress though. Is there already a Huntsman? I'll have check. Note to self, check trademarks on The Huntsman. Wait, are those goat tracks?'. He snapped out of his mental monolouge for a moment to squat down near what he believed to be goat tracks, hopefully he would get a sighting and not just signs thereof soon.

He took a break. He grabbed the backpack he was wearing and set it off on his left, placing his binoculars on top and pulling out his canteen. He took the top of his ghillie suit off and took a moment to relax and enjoy the mountain weather and climate.

Vera scratched the bridge of her nose before twitching it back into place, skipping through locations made her face itch. The boys, inner voice verbally crossed her mind. Mind linking tired her at times, every little, stupid thought wasn't interesting.

She bite the inside of her cheek trying to think of a way to approach him, Being Mr. 'Huntsman' maybe he'd just hear me. That'd totally make things, simple. Simple like, maybe weird, but simple.

"Breaks are for losers." she mumbled half-assly.

Tom was startled as he had not been paying much attention to his surroundings, he quickly ceased all thinking about how cool it would be to be an X-man called the Huntsman and quickly began to wonder who it was talking to him.

'God?' he thought to himself as his mind began to race. He looked around from his location, however, could not help but turn his glance upwards, perhaps in search of something in fact divine.

"Hey, it's a full pack, cut me some slack." he said out loud.

This was a new experience to Vera, in all the times she'd popped in out of nowhere not once had someone assumed she was God. While she desperately wanted to play this out, her laughter was not to be suppressed and echoed lightly through the trees.

She more than blew her cover at the possibility of being God and thought she must at least be polite and muffle her giggling since he would think she was laughing at what he said, not what he thought.

Vera slinked into view from behind the nearest fir. She appeared to be without the normal gear for a hiker and the bracelets on her wrist jingled as she walked towards him.

"Gotta agree then, cause you know, I have nothing stopping me." She considered the fact that she looked out of place, or at least stupid to a trained, or smart, hiker. She mentally beat herself for not messing with her appearance, "But I mean, this is kind of.. Well, hi, I'm Vera. Sorry if I confused you, or something, like, yeah."

Tom's mind raced once again, 'Must be a student. I thought people had to be smart to get in, where's her gear? What if there was a flash flood or something, or insurgents? Wait, insurgents? Calm down Tom wrong country, you're not on base anymore. She's just hiking or something. Better not clue her in on what you can do; we still have that funny feeling about this place.’

He smiled and gave an awkward laugh, “Oh, yeah, guess you’re right.” He stood up and dropped his canteen at his feet. “Are you a student here? I haven’t seen you around before, but I guess I’m not really the most social of people out here on the mountain and all.” He shifted himself so that he startled his equipment, standing over it to make sure that nothing would happen to it, as he still had his suspicions of people.

It was difficult for her to sort through what was his thought proccess and what he was actually telling her. She was tempted to even sever that connection so she could focus on the conversation, but she couldn't let herself do it, his thought patterns were the strangest things.

"Am I a student, am I a student," she mumbled, "Yeah, I guess I am. But I guess that, like makes it strange that we both met, I'm not entirely social myself, you see? Just sort of wander." She shook her wrist at the scenery, waving her hand, "So, you here for the view or for the hike, or what?"

'That's definitely not a normal way of talking. Wonder what her power is. Wonder if she's a bad people. Wonder what she's doin out here. Ok, stop wondering. Focus, what's her ambient sound, mayber her power is her hearing? What's her sight, maybe she's super sighted and hearing all amazingly good. Maybe that's her power, check.'

At that moment Tom tried to focus his telepathic abilities of augmentation and screening of vision and hearing but received the equivalent of white noise and static.

'Hmmm, so, kinda mind reading didn't work. That's weird. Better stay on high alert. who knows what she might be up to.'

He talked while thinking all of this. Now turning into somewhat of a mumbler as he learned this of her.

"Me? Oh, just getting some map changes. I'm a pretty big hunter. Kinda looking for some mountain goat. seen some signs. You seen anything Ms....." he trailed off obviously waiting for a name.

Her intent focus on separating the conversation from his thoughts made her response come rather slowly, "Oh.. I thought I had..I mean.. Well, I'm Vera, like you know, the designer? Maybe you don't, I mean, you are up here hunting for goats.. Anyways there's no Ms about it. And you? You're name?" she felt it best to be rather clear with him, she should probably try that with more people in general.

She was rather confused by this point, it was unlike her not to have given her name within the first few sentences of the conversation. It was practically computed into her formalities, while the manner of it, and her speech in general, had surely turned into something rather laughable and ridiculous sounding over the years, the action itself was cemented.

“Tom Roost, and yeah, you probably did give me your name, I just didn’t notice. Kinda scatter brained at the moment. And yeah, well, I’m kind of goat hunting, I’m mostly just scouting out right now, but hunting later. Helps me be less scattered,” Tom said with a slight chuckle.

‘Ok, maybe she’s not so weird. I’m thinking too deep into this maybe. But something bout the school isn’t adding up. Maybe I’m just not looking into this enough. Keep focused. Just because something doesn’t seem out of place doesn’t mean it isn’t. These people might be smart. Probe’ He thought to himself. Over the years he had become extremely well of thinking of two different things, with only saying one thing on his mind.

“So, uh, here by choice, or did your parents send you? I heard that happens a bit here…I mean, the school, not the mountains.”
